Two police officers are being treated in hospital after it is understood they were stabbed during an incident in Inverclyde.
They had been called to an address in Gateside Gardens, Greenock, at 08:45.
It is thought a male police officer was stabbed in the neck while a female officer was stabbed in the arm.
The man is believed to be in a serious condition, while the woman suffered minor arm injuries. Both of their families have been informed.
They are being treated at Inverclyde Royal Hospital, as is a man who was detained by police at the scene.
It has been reported the suspect may have run a short distance before being hit by two police vehicles.
Andrea MacDonald, chairwoman of the Scottish Police Federation, said: “Our thoughts are with the injured officers and their families. Once again we see how difficult and dangerous a job it is.
“Police officers put themselves between other professionals and the public and dangerous individuals sometimes with life changing consequences for themselves and their families.
“We wish our colleagues a speedy and full recovery.”
