An elderly couple, believed to be in their 80s, have been murdered in a “very brutal attack” in their home in County Armagh.

A relative found their bodies in their Upper Ramone Park home in Portadown this afternoon, close to Craigavon Area Hospital.

They are reported to have been stabbed.

PSNI Det Supt Kevin Geddes said police “were following a line of inquiry” and a 40-year-old man was arrested in the Springfields area of Portadown.

He said the couple died in a “very brutal attack”.

“The family car belonging to the deceased, a grey Renault Kango van, was taken from the house and later found at around 5:00pm in the Edenderry Gardens area,” he added.

The man in custody was arrested nearby.

It was reported that a man was breaking into a car in Upper Ramone Park at around 12:20 BST on Friday.

Police believe that incident may be related to the murder of the elderly couple.
